MOST AWARDS RESULTS Ful-Service Media Agencies Category This category of the MOST Awards has always been strongly contested over the years. A total of 25 companies were listed in this year’s survey. A positive feature of the MOST Awards methodology, whereby companies are rated against specific performance criteria irrespective of their size, has allowed media agencies to be rated and ranked on a level playing field. This has resulted in media agencies based in Johannesburg and in Cape Town winning the coveted title as The Best. This year however, The MediaShop Johannesburg comprehensively earned the category winner award, beating all rivals, large and small. The MediaShop team is formidable, now having won the full-service agency category six times in nine years. The fact that it is a large agency, employing numerous staff (who all need to be on top of their game), makes this achievement even more impressive. Second and third spot were claimed by last year’s category winner PHD and Vizeum Johannesburg respectively. The MediaShop Johannesburg has set the standard for media agency performance in the industry. Its consistency has been one of its particular strengths, achieving top scores for ‘Knowledge of client brands and media’ and ‘Communication & collaboration’ in most years. This year, The MediaShop Johannesburg received 51 best-in-category votes out of its 87 total votes, achieving a very impressive 59% best-in-category index. They take the time to connect with us and are very good at sharing relevant insights and media trends.” Another said, “The MediaShop (JHB) is the most progressive agency, moving to keep up with the times without losing its agency integrity and professionalism”. Traditionally, this award has recognised traditional and full-service media agencies that are more specialised in nature or relatively small. So, while the past winners have not necessarily been the biggest, they have certainly punched significantly above their weight from a MOST Awards perspective. Traditionally, the Lamb Award has signaled the strong companies to watch in future. Indeed, numerous Lamb Award winners in the past have gone on to win the MOST Award in their categories. This year revealed a first-time winner in Initiative Media’s Cape Town team, with other podium newcomers Brand et al and FCB Africa ranking second and third respectively.
